Dude mate, all coins weigh differently than others, its just a part of the thing. After 1982, all cents are meant to be around 2.5 because they are made of zinc instead of copper. Before 1982, they are copper, which weigh around 3.1 It is normal for the coin to weigh a little more or less than its regular weight. Nothing unusual mate.

Don't worry man, keep up the good work! If you do ever find a cent like that then make another post! It would be quite interesting to see.

Mint tolerance is +/- .13 grams. Also a lot of wear will reduce the weight.

2.6 grams is within tolerance, 2.7 is very slightly heavy but not enough so to make it worth a premium. I normally figure for a premium the weight needs to be at least .4 grams out of tolerance.

I'm also still looking for that 3.1 gram penny, 1983, 1983d, 1989d, 1990d, and of course, the 1982d (small date)
