Yes, this is real. It is a WB-102 die marriage but looks to have some very bad scratches across it. It looks like someone took a Brillo pad to it.

it's strange to me how the strike is so weak on liberty's chest and on the eagle's tail, but so sharp on the motto. the motto is rarely that crisp

Yep, I see it as having been abrasively cleaned.

WB-8 but don't like the look of it. I don't like the word Half on the reverse. Looks whizzed to me.
