I was wondering if anyone else has made arrangements for their collect after they have pasted on? I have a will and have written instructions for my wife on how to split up my collection so that she can get the most out of them. Anybody else?

Hmm.. I don't have a wife or kids so mine is most likely going to pay down the national debt.

If that happens, everything goes to my nephew--I can't think of anyone more deserving.

All my coins will be be drilled and made into necklaces which the guests will wear to my funeral and then they stick it in my casket.

I think I'll take a funeral pyre on a heap of slabbed coins.

I have not thought about it, but a will is one of the best ways to go unless you have a little time left and know what is going to happen to you. When my grandparents died a few years ago they went within about a year of each other and all kinds of hell broke loose because of how long they waited to do their will and the family members that show up from no where. We were the only ones that actually helped out cleaning the house out of old useless junk and trying to get the bills and other loose ends tied up. We ended up getting a few things from them but the majority of the family (that never cared until the death) somehow found legal council to get rid of us and fight over what was there.
The other one I remember was when my great-grand mother died and her will said that everything left in her house should be split up between the kids and grand kids. In her later years she was starting to loose her mind and some of the family members took advantage of her and started slowly taking everything out of her house before others knew about it. By the time my mom actually got there her and her siblings had to actually steal a small memento just to have something.
So what is my point, hopefully you are in a state of mind to pass things on before you go or the combination to the safe is only known by you and the lawyer so the will works.

This is an interesting question and something I have thought about from time to time. I have two young daughters and essentially one "special" (at least to me) coin. It has made me think about what I look to buy now in a different light. ""Should I be buying this?" I say to myself when looking at something at a shop or on ebay. It has made me really scale back on what I would call "impulse" buys and try to save towards another special piece.

This subject really irks me due to one big reason. My age and health. A few years ago I was diagnosed with stage 4 Cancer and if you are informed that normally means by-by. I fooled them since I'm still here. Then there is this age stuff. I started collecting coins in the early 40's so I guess I'm really old and that also makes me think how soon my coins will go somewhere. Not many relatives left alive and from a small family. Lost most in WW2. One son in another state that if I go, he would probably not hear about it for months. A will is just so good but if your really worried you should look into what is called a living trust with an attorney. This will deminish any family fights over your possesions. Now as to my coins. I really have no idea what will happen to any of my stuff afterwards. Several old cars, other collections, all household items, etc. I may just have to come back as someone else to grab it all.

To just carl. Just a thought. Find an organization that would appreciate your collection as a collection and leave it to them when your time comes. If you don't designate it in a will the collection will be sread with the wind so to speak. Your name could live on forever engraved with the collection. Donated by Carl.... think about it.
