I checked for listings, and couldn't find anything. Also, in my opinion, it looks like some staining or corrosion. I'm not an expert but I think the S mint mark would be smaller as well. Happy hunting Bate!

There were no 'S' mint marks that year. So that can't be the case. {San Francisco mint was closed from 1955-1965 when they started minting coins with no mint marks and struck the SMS there without mint marks) It may have had something on the surface of the field at one time. (Epoxy or soldier) But no "S" mint mark punches were around at that time. (Not until 1968)

Thanks. I try to give helpful information without talking about stuff I don't know about. Also, I agree with Mr Coop as there were no business strike S mint marks for that year. Totally forgot about that! Happy hunting Bate!

I remembered because I lived through those years. It was always something to look for in change in the area I lived to find an 'S' cent. When they closed the mint, that just made the hunt even more interesting. Looking back to then, we figured the mint totally went away for good. I was surprised when it re-opened. (not know then it was used in 1965-1967 to strike cents during that time with the non mint mark period) So I guess I'm really getting older everyday.
