Would love a little information on this medal/token I received for Christmas. Does anyone have any information on the country or history of it? Thanks in advance!

@FH, first welcome to CCF. Second, until someone weighs in with your answer, I recommend you check out primaltrek.com. They are my first stop for identifying Chinese and Buddhist tokens.

Glad to hear that I was of some help @frauh, although now that I look more closely at this piece, I am a bit confused. With her many arms wielding weapons, the obv seems to be an image of Durga, but the rev is clearly Chinese characters. I don't see an example of your token on primaltrek. It also seems to be more wordy that the typical temple token. If you don't mind posting the identification information on this piece so that we all can learn, that would be super cool. Thx!

Well, Spence, I took your reference and ran a search with Durga, Thailand and Chinese characters in it. I got one hit with someone in Thailand trying to sell one for about 4o bucks. They called it a 1000 hands Buddah and it is a good luck coin. Still no information on date or use, but seems to be of Thailand origin. It sticks to a magnet so no on the silver, srcliff.
Thanks for all your help. We're getting a little closer.
