My wife and I already have in our collection, the 2006 one cent, Two Cent and fifty cent pieces in proof. We were so impressed she turned around and purchased the full 2006 proof set! I do believe the 2006 sets will be "keepers"! They are all here, safe and sound in Indiana!!!

Sorry to hear you are having probs with your order. I have found from experience it is far better to order from a reliable seller than from the Mints direct.

Just an advance heads up to all members who are collecting the ETY sets. The FSPS will be out sometime in Feb. No images are available as yet, though I suspect dealers know what it looks like.Past sets have a mintage of 6,500 and issue price is around AUD$200.

Hey B_F, any advice you are allowed to give as to which 50 cents is in this set? It would be great and almost a guaranteed sellout if the RAM includes both....

Hi shatsi...let me see how I can answer this as it can be confusing.

ETY = End of The Year sets are circulating coin sets issued by the RAM towards the end of the year, normally before Christmas. These includes the proof set, the Mint uncirculated set,the Baby Proof Set, the Baby Uncirculated set and the Wedding set. So far, the ETY sets are coins minted out of cupro nickel for the 5,10,20 & the 50 cents and aluminium bronze for the dollar and two dollar coins.

FSPS = Fine Silver Proof Sets are normally issued in Feb/March of each year since the series started in 2003. All the coins, irrespective of denomination are strucked in 99.9 silver. The FSPS series started in 2003 and so far, only 6,500 sets have been minted for each year. It comes in a beautiful wooden presentation box.

Having said all of the above, the RAM made a few changes this year.

1. The 50 cents proof coin in the 8 coins proof set is strucked out of 80% silver and it is round.

2. The fifty cents in the uncirculated Mint sets, are strucked out of cupro nickel and it is 12 sided.

3. The fifty cents in the Baby proof set is 12 sided and is strucked out of cupro nickel.

4. The fifty cents in the Wedding sets are strucked out of cupro nickel but it is a specimen strike in true GEM grade.

From the above, for a decimal collector of the 50 cents coins, he/she will have to buy all of the above sets to own all the different 50 cents. To me, it is a very rude money grabbing ploy by the Mint.

There is a lot of speculation over what type of coins are in the FSPS hence my post where I asked the question of whether the fifty cents is round or 12 sided.

I hope the above makes sense....

Well I hope someone way down there is going to bust sets open? I prefer individual coins to sets as, like it or not, it will be those individual coins that drive the value of the sets! And the individual coins are a lot easier to store and take less space!

Sorry Lim...not allowed to tell but let me say it is not a standard 50c coin.
