It looks to me it has been struck through by a nail? On the reverse, am not quite sure if this is the normal design but it looks like parts of the memorial steps running through the lower area of the left vase? Could that be an extra column on the first memorial bay as well? I would appreciate the experts opinions on this. Thank you.

To me looks like coin contact that affected that area. It would be too small an area for a nail to affect just that little area. Try this, the next time you are looking through your scope, point a toothpick under your scope. You will see how much larger that looks. It almost reminds you of a pencil. So when viewing under the scope, things look a lot larger than they really are. Even a very small piece of wire, would be larger than the affected area.

Even a struck thread looks large under a scope:

Thank you @coop. What do you mean by coin contact on the affected area? It looks like a nail head on my end.

Sometimes call bag marks. Slight hits from edges of other coins. Light ones will be weaker, stronger hits will leave bigger marks on the coins raised and level devices. Even glancing blows make lines of damage. Just depends on how the coins fall on another coin.

@coop, I don't think it's a contact mark as it visibly gives a strong impression even just on the photo. Don't you think it's a nail head, how about getting struck by the tiniest nail head? Lol. How about the reverse re left vase inquiry?

I tried to look but even the 2000 D LMC graded at MS 68-69 on PCGS, I cannot make comparison to match my coin with per my inquiry re memorial steps running through the left vase or maybe I am just needing confirmations from the experts that this is just the normal reverse design?
