I think what your seeing is PMD, which is the flattening of the bottom serif of the MM. There could be split serifs at the top of the MM, but with your lighting it's tough to tell. (Re-Punched-Mint mark) Looks more like a contact mark. The overall shape of the mint mark is there. A RPM would show a spread on split serifs on the corners of the 'S' or 'D'. 001 002 Closer view.
