I have a 1939 nickel. Jefferson's profile especially his nose appears to have a line and his hairline.

What you're seeing is wrapper machine damage. Most likely the end piece on

a roll.

Not machine damage.

The obverse has an arcing gouge or scrape in the hairline, but the nose shows a double-profile effect caused by Strike Doubling.
