Some extremely rare coins were sold today including the only known coins of Pertinax's wife and son. One of my favorite coins also went under the hammer, an aureus with Septimius Severus on the obverse and Caracalla, Julia Domna and Geta on the back. I first saw this coin at the Capitoline Museum in Rome and didn't even know it existed until 2 years ago. It sold for $84k including BP.

My holy grail of collecting was also under the hammer. It is the deification issue of Julia Domna. I've been waiting for about 6 weeks and ended up fighting someone on the floor for this coin. Still, I lost at $900. Just couldn't justify $1000 for a coin that I'm only borrowing for a few years until I drop dead.

Oh well. Back to work.
