Kushanshah Pillar of the Community United States 1554 Posts	Posted 01/07/2019 7:15 pm Alhough there is no mint name or date, it is reasonably certain that this anonymous type was struck in al-Andalus (Spain), unlike those posted previously which were of North African type. This coin belongs to Frochoso group XIII characterized by standard epigraphy (including a longer form of the Kalima on obverse, "There is no god but Allah alone, there are no others with Him"), characteristically Spanish (thinner, more delicate) calligraphy, and a double pointillate margin either side. Specifically, it is Frochoso XIII-a-2 (single pellets above and below reverse). It is unknown whether these "transitional" coins date to the later period of the Umayyad governors (representing Damascus) or to the early period of the independent Umayyad Emirate of Cordóba.
