This is a different 78 Morgan than the other thread. This one has some very nice shine and cartwheel luster.

I agree.

NDBirdman, the difference in color around the lettering and edges of the devices is a sign that I have learned to look for in determining if a coin has been cleaned. Granted, some older cleanings will have toned up nicely over the years and become attractive or even market acceptable, but not in this case in my opinion.

High AU - Details Cleaned

Mr. Birdman, I would suggest purchasing some Morgans in NGC/PCGS MS (mint-state non-details) slabs. In common dates they aren't particularly expensive (around 50 bucks) and it really helps you get a feel of what to look for. It helped me tremendously at least.

I'm doing just that now. Most of these I did not pay much more than melt so I figured go for it. My purpose was just to have a set with a coin of every year minted, which I do and enjoy. Now I'm getting a little more into it, I am only buying slabs, most I'm buying now are atleast MS 63-65, slowly replacing the ones that are of low quality. Thanks, I'm learning and having fun!

I agree. Looking at graded coins in slabs helps a lot, even if you don't own them and are just at a show or a store.

That is a more than perfect reason to purchase this coin. If you purchased it for around melt, you did fine imo.
