So, I've been waiting all day for this TrueView and it finally posted.

For starters, we DID ask PCGS to conserve this one. There were seeds of potential verdigris blooms that could only be seen with the very high magnification photos; I am willing to share some if anyone wants. That said, whatever they did.. we'll have to see how it really looks once it comes back in the mail, but this boy was not that dark before. I think he still looks handsome, perhaps more now, but I never expected that.

This coin taught me a lot about grading. There are several similar coins from this book which I basically call "same as the 1914-D" because they are brown AU sliders that I haven't much experience with. I bought new lenses and scopes finally because of the ambiguity over these sliders.

One thing the photos seem to imply: whatever dusty layer had covered this cent before had apparently been hiding some previously undiscovered luster.

By the way: our dealer told us this was an MS60, though with conservation could be a 63.

Looks awesome! See you just never know.... looking at this coin I would have called it a 60/62... but I'll take 63 14D's all day! Lol.

I know I am late.... I called this a 62 BN with a shot at 63.

GREAT coin. Congrats!

Must have been one heck of an album!

PS...what brand of album were these Lincolns in?

@acloco, they came to us in a newer Whitman, 1909-... with dates up to 1991, all filled; they have obviously changed albums over time, but I am forced to assume they have always been stored in a manner that the faces of the coin were not in contact with anything that might gas out or oxidize surfaces, such as a paper envelope.

It always bugs me when I hear about coins in this condition in Whitmans! No offense to them, but those folders are in no way adequate for high grade coins such as these.
