Looks like normal wear with environmental (corrosion) damage.

From what I've noticed with a lot of v-nickels is that the reverse tends to go first with wear.

CuNi is probably the most durable material used in any US circulating coin. So, it would take quite a bit of mistreatment and circulation to get your coin looking like that. I suspect it was buried in the ground for a bit, maybe decades ago, and heavily circulated as well.

Could have been someone's pocket piece . With date showing ,looks like a nice lowball , PO-01 or cull ?

A designated grade of PO-1 is the lowest grade given to a coin as long as the date is discernable ( poor-1 ) . A cull is a badly worn and damaged coin ,not in a collectible state . Usually bent gouged or corroded . ( no Numismatic value ).
