In 1905, France minted 60 million zinc coins with the denomination 1/600 piastre for use in the French protectorate of Tonkin. Despite their similarity to the local Vietnamese cash coins in use (some of which were also made of zinc), they did not become popular. A large part of the 60 million were never put into circulation, so it is quite easy to find them in good condition like this one.
