Is the notching in always on the top corners of the devices? Do the "notches" or chuncks that are in the middle of a letter have anything to do with what you all call notching? And what would you consider a broken O, or an O that over loops itself. It's hard to explain, but kind-of like the end of a coil.

It's often not so dramatic, but it's there. Here is a 1964 Lincoln with notching.

The question about the 'O' is coin damage. The clue is the incuse mark on that device. If it we a doubled die, then it would be raised, not sunk in on the device. Also the other areas are showing Machine Doubling. Note how the edges of those devices are affected? On the examples we posted, the spread is seen on the center of the devices, not on the edge. The edges will show you MD and die wear. Look at the centers of the devices, forget looking there. After reading this, go back over the images we posted. Note how the devices are showing spread or enlargement of the devices. Then look back again at your images and note that the devices you posted are normal sizes or reduced from what a normal device should be.
