I have a 1972 21st Anniversary Rex Allen Days Rodeo token in really excellent condition. I haven't been able to find it listed anywhere, so have no idea what to ask for it. It's made of copper and has the profile image of Rex Allen on the front and a bucking bronco on the reverse. Please contact me if you can help.

I would say that has a every limited audience of buyers, general token collects might pop for a couple of bucks for it. Few if any outside the rodeo ckt would know of him or why they have the rodeo named after him out side of the general area it is held in. Since it isn't a PM and made out of copper it is a low ended to start with. Buy the way this forum has a post count rule on selling or asking to sell items. ebay will be your best bet.

Not trying to be a downer but that is the facts of life token collecting, some items even 100 years old or better don't have much value. Bottom line it is what somebody is willing to pay for it.

These are certainly not uncommon in my region. Rex Allen Days continues to be an annual event held in Willcox, which is his hometown. In recent years the festivities have included a car show and of course there's a parade.

Here's the 1973 version of the token -

Before finding fame as a singer, actor, and film narrator, "The Arizona Cowboy" was in fact a professional rodeo rider.

One question is that I haven't found this year anywhere. Anyone know why?

It's odd that I haven't found any examples of it online anywhere. Sorry my photos aren't the best.

It's not odd at all, most are accidental keepsakes till the owner dies or cleans out their junk drawer. ebay isn't as popular as it once was with all the other venues that are out there. Check the link as there is a complete set of them, all 7 for $32.00 about $5.00 each as with all tokens. This is by no means rare or even near rare. Outside of its native state and an older rodeo crowd the people that know of him and his work are dying off.
Here in Michigan it would be in the bargain bin 50% off box probably for a dollar or two. Interest in subject matter is the bottom line. And no matter how much you think it is rare or interesting it really doesn't matter in the token game.

I concur with this assessment, even though Willcox is rather a small town and the number distributed each year may have only numbered in the hundreds.

Even here in Arizona, it'd be unlikely to fetch more than that. There's simply not the sort of interest in Rex Allen memorabilia that there is for that of the likes of Roy Rogers or Gene Autry.

I do prefer that 1972 reverse design to the pretty generic 1973 one.

I thought I'd add the 1980 version to this thread (plucked it yesterday out of a bin of miscellaneous tokens) -

Rex Allen made some interesting films in the 1950's.

His 1950 film "Under Mexicali Stars" was about the smuggling of Mexican 50 peso Centenario gold coins and featured Rex hanging from the bottom of a helicopter.

Rex holds a Mexican 50 peso coin for the camera:
