What grade would you give this one?

I'll say EF-40.

Light but noticeable wear. I would go for VF30-35.

Dutch grade: Fraai

English equilvalent: Fine 15.

There is too much wear (high point of ear is worn flat, as is beard, and hair has lost too many details) to be Very Fine.

Only slabbed reference I could find below MS grades is this earlier type with more-or-less same portrait that got a VF-25.

I think your obv is comparable, but your rev is stronger, so I'm probably with oriole.

Thanks for posting this recent series of 19th c. crowns. I am learning a lot.

I found the following example on a Netherlands Coin Auction site. It was graded as Zeer Fraai (Very Fine):

Netherlands-1848-2-1/2-Gulden-For-Grading

Of course, Dutch standards may be different, but I could only find one site which discussed various international grading terms, and it claimed that Zeer Fraai was the same as Very Fine.

Thanks Jan, that's a nice one and for sure European standards are much tougher than the 70 point Sheldon scale used in the US.
