Just a warning to all here. Sorry for not providing a link, but I'm at work w/o ebay access. There is an 1878 8TF Morgan currently listed on ebay ending today that the seller has attributed as a VAM 5 (big ticket item). He offers the coin as a VAM 5 in the title and beginning of his text, but offers a caveat emptor to buyers to look at the pictures and decide for themselves. Only problem is the pics omit the key attribution points for a VAM 5. The coin is actually a VAM 12 (relatively common). I emailed the seller last night and informed him/her of the attribution error and also notified ebay. I doubt either will react. I don't want someone on this forum getting burned. This is the second major mis-attribution from this seller that I've seen. I informed him/her of that one too and nothing changed. The coin sold for hundreds of dollars more than it was worth.

If you want to see the coin and wording, just do a search on 1878 VAM 5. The one ending today will be the one. I think the seller was "rdgmb".

I don't see any VAM-5 ending today on ebay, maybe it has already ended or something but I just looked and couldn't find it

Thanks Bryan,

I'll check when I get home tonight and provide an update. Maybe the seller did the right thing or ebay reacted. You get that "helpless" feeling watching that auction ... wishing you could reach out and let bidders know the truth.

Well, it ended and whoever got it will pay $112 for about a 62/63 8TF. Not a terrible price for just the coin and not the VAM. I hate the way this seller presents these coins for auction ... all the hype up front with the caveat emptor at the end.

btw the seller never responded to my email advising them of the mis-attribution.
