This cent has some material embedded on obverse side of cent. It looks like plastic. I took a picture at a slight angle of the large piece of material to show that the material is embedded into the cent. I took another picture of the small piece embedded on the south side of the coin, but it did not show the buildup around the cent like the large piece on the north. Whether it has value or not it is a keeper to me. Ive been to three county fairs and two goat ropings and I ain't never seen nothing like this before. Any help identifying the cause of this is greatly appreciated.

I think what your seeing is the zinc core. Regardless it is a victim of post strike damage.

It looks like some type of plastic stuck on the coin not embedded. Maybe epoxy? No added value,it is considered a damaged coin...PSD.

on the epoxy or possibly urethane theory.

You can see the chop marks in the coin where someone was chipping it off at some point.

I'm pretty sure I can see that it's a clear substance that has been partially removed from the surface. I'm looking especially just to the right of the second T in TRUST. There is a ledge where the substance has been partially cracked off. The dings on the surface of the coin would be consistent with someone striking the clear substance with something leaving the types of edge cracks I mentioned.

Thank you everyone for all the comments. I appreciate your time and trouble. Sorry about the pictures. I'm working on that. I agree that most is PMD, but I'm not entirely sure of the clear material. Thank you again.
