Thought I'd try to kill two birds with one stone here.
I just found this weird nickel and remembered that I own a Flying Eagle cent with the similar issue.What is it?

How could it be? None of the edges of either coin show any kind of damage, just the reverse on the rim shows folding.

The nickel has been roughed up a bit but not to the degree that it would have folded over the letters. The anomaly starts then is heaviest in the center and then fades out . Between Pluribus and Unum some of the rim appears to be peeking through. Add all this up and the nickel looks to have the remnants of a folded fin.

Actually the ball is in your court now.
Coop is an extremely well respected contributor to this forum and has helped many over the years. He gave you his opinion of your coin based on your photos.
I obviously interpreted your photos differently.
So as I said, the ball is in your court. Study the error I mentioned and also investigate how damage looks on a coin.
After all that , you decide which opinion to side with

the nickel could be a Rim Fin, that has been worn over..
