7/100 of a gram is within tolerance and certainly could just be wear.

Just dirty or environmental damage I would say.

OK. Let's try this again. The coin is NOT toned and not corroded. It is red and not silver color. The exterior looks like what should be on the interior. Here is another picture. Last post and thanks-  |

Environmental damage will do exactly that, you can see how rough the surface is.

Exactly, coarse surfaces, and loss of lamination indicative of environmental damage,moisture,soil acidity etc.. it did not leave the mint that way.

I am still learning about verities.
Just a quick FYI. The "not a double die" Kennedy you advised me about a week or so ago--- I traded to a local Coin Shop. He said it was a 1973 DDR-002. Got a 1917s clear date Buffalo, 3/4 horn, in trade. He also showed me some examples of true double dies vs machine and ghost vs true no FGs.

You need to consider that There are times that the cause of the anomaly is too obvious going purely by the images provided like the coin in this topic and the trickiest part is to determine if the findings are truly accurate considering not having the coin in hand, so a real focused close up of the area in question particularly on the Doubled Dies are essential, as I said I have not seen your thread but could be because the images were not too clear? Just a quick FYI...the 1973 half dollar you posted a while back, that you said a coin dealer told you was the 73 DDR-002 I believe is wrong, not a 73 DDR-002. Here is a CONICA listed 50c 73 DDR-002 photo, note the CCW spread on STATES and stars. Larry Nienaber  |
