hmm, is this worth keeping? looks like two O's , "in good we trust", and grease + struck through maybe? or just Die Deterioration?

Die damage.
There doesn't seem to be any damage to the plating on the coin itself.

Definitely a keeper. It looks like it was Struck Through Grease and grit mixed together.

The partial curvature you are referring to was caused during the strike by the grease getting in between the die and the planchet.
