I purchased this from my LCS a couple of days. I didn't know what is was and neither did the dealer. I was hoping some you guys could help me identify what this token is and what kind of value this may have? Thanks!

It's a Masonic Lodge or Chapter coin.

Yours is in spectacular condition though.

Edit. Here's one closer and in decent shape.

Your coin is a "Masonic Penny" token issued by the Royal Arch Mason (R.A.M.) Griscom Chapter in Ashland, Pennsylvania.

Royal Arch Masons are a specialized branch of Freemasonry like Shriners or Scottish Rite, and they give these tokens to members.

Interesting enough, my grandfather was born in Ashland but left the area shortly thereafter.

Here is another Masonic Penny from San Francisco:

Masonic Penny San Francisco Chapter 5

People do collect them and they can be worth from $5.00 to lots more.

Correct on the Royal Arch Masons! A little bit more on it... The coin features a Keystone which is common throughout all lodges. When you receive your Royal Arch Degree, you will also receive a token, like the ones posted. the token, or penny, is signifacant in a couple ways. one of those ways pertains to what you learn during that degree, the other is your Mark. Every Royal Arch mason has a "Mark", their own personal "Mark" , like that of the Masons before them to help them identify who built the structure, like a signature in stone. The middle part of the Keystone on the token (the circle) is for that purpose, your Mark would be engraved there after it is put in the registry. My mark is the All seeing eye in a wolf paw. Pretty interesting that your coin is in as good a shape as it is! they are supposed to be carried on your person...

Uncirculated tokens are found because many Royal Arch Masons lodges have closed and their remaining unused tokens have entered the numismatic market.

I actually mis-spoke, I meant to say Chapters, not Lodges. I understand where you are coming from willieboyd, I have a lot of extra coins and tokens from events, lodges and such. there is somebody's Mark on the one he bought, meant to be carried, a Mark can be as simple as an X, line or intials. ksammut, if you are interested in more like that, please PM me, I have many resources for stuff like that!

Thank you everyone! I have been very interested in Masonic tokens and history, so this is a neat start to a collection.
