I think the only thing I ever traded in for bullion/melt value were a bunch of worn Franklin halves back around 2010 when silver was high (I'd had them for 40 years). I've found that many holed and beat up 19th century (and earlier) coins can be sold on ebay for enough multiples of melt to make it worth the effort, if you have the time on your hands (some people would say I don't value my time very highly when I do that .
So for me, the answer is no, it's not just grade. But I can understand that for people who are buying and selling as an income stream, they would look at it differently.
hmm, would any silver coins be worth more if melted down o,o? I would have thought that you would only melt coins if they were either very common dated and were in terribly worn or damaged.
