Just wondering if that's the correct term for this... I assume it's a mint error since the reverse is nice and clear. Found in my parents penny jar when I was a kid.

I don't think this is a capped die b/c a capped die is when a coin remains stuck on a die after being struck and then you see the high points of the full image of the coin transfered onto further coins. It looks like it was struck through the edge of another coin that failed to eject properly. Not sure what the technical term is though.

Partial brockage, perhaps?

That would be a partial brockage strike, nice find
The other part of the set would be known as a double strike, second strike off center. If you have the other one, I am jealous

Unfortunately, I don't have the other coin involved in the strike... I would expect it to be too badly mangled to get through the scanner? It would be extremely cool to have the matched set!
