I'd say it was put in a vice with another cent, possibly steel, and compressed.

Agree on the squeeze job. The rim would account for the indent in the N. Can't be a steel cent, the shape of the digit showing does not match the nine of a 43 cent. I believe the digit imposed on your coin is a six, maybe 56 from the shape of it. Of course I could be just full of------copper.

Both sold on ebay.... (No it wasn't from me) Both sellers claimed they were genuine. Both vice squeezed.
The Dime one may have been pressed into a blank planchet as no Cent devices show. The bottom images on the second image were reversed to show what they should have look like if they were real....NOT!
