The luster looks disturbed on the obverse maybe polished at some time imo ICCS would prob give a au55 I think

Hey Alan,

I am under the impression that something was also done to this coin. It looks MS but do you think ICCS would net grade it? To me honestly it looks MS 60. Bearly see any wear but it could have been dipped or polished. Thanks for the input. Lets see if a few more members can elaborate further.

I think is something they would put maybe even au 50 on, have seen others like it high UNC details graded by ICCS, still very nice looking coins but they put it down in the au50-ms60 range but nothing more, and they rarely leave anything in the comments. I think they only leave comments for altered or cleaned/ polished if it's rather noticeable and distracting, other wise they just knock points off. You can tell the surface has been effected in and around the king. Should be thick with luster for that year in that shape, I think anyways.

By definition an MS coin has no wear whatsoever.

"Dipping" is not considered cleaning...

Coin in question is currently being offered for sale on ebay as an auction by someone other than the OP. While it's not exactly bad form to ask for opinions to help calculate your bid, it would be best to disclose the fact that it isn't your coin in the first post.

This forum is mostly used for people asking for opinions on their coins which they actually own.

I think that's a fair point to at least disclose it's not yours personally, but it's good for education to put up any and all coins for viewing and understanding

Hey guys,

So thanks to both of you for pointing out what should be done. I'm fairly new to the forum so I am not sure if the information on any coin should be disclosed or not when its for sale on ebay. I am also to the understanding that this forum is not only for coins that are owned but in general to all coins that spark a particular interest wether they are owned or not by the individual posting.

Also, If I do not disclose the information while its active on the bay its for a specific reason...I hope you understand which reason that could be.

We understand completely. You'd like our help in determining how much to bid, to buy a coin you intend to resell, as per your forum name. This isn't the first time posting in the grading form for this intent.

Your recent topic asking for grades on an 1885 quarter that was up for auction on ebay.

Said auction.

I am more than willing to help collectors learn to grade their own coins, as are most here. If you're directly using our opinions to flip/deal/make money in this business, the least you could do is tell us it's not your own piece.

If someone wants to track down where it is being sold and bid, at least they have a chance at it too. The forums are about sharing, after all.

Hey Mathew,

I understand the name I have is giving you an assumption on what I do. I think you are judging a book by its cover. Ill tell you a little bit about me; I am someone whos primarily source of business is in the construction industry. I am a father of 3 and expecting a 4th and soon to be 34 now in march. I have recently joined the coin community but have been collecting for 4 years and counting.

I do buy coins because I simply love them and I have an addictive personality where coining and researching fullfills my time. When I buy these coins, at the start I did so without really understanding them. I just bought them and probably trusted the buyer more than myself. I now would like to buy with as much understanding and knowledge as possible. I do not sell my coins, rather I hoard them. My personality has me hooked in this hobby but as I said before at the beginning I was buying very blindly...

I do not use this site or your time to make a profit, rather educate my self from your experience. I usually place my last best bid on the very last 1-2 seconds and hope to win it. I place this bid with my best price based on the research I do from auction sales/catalogue price/and my gut feeling.

I also buy coins with a full intention of investment but this investment is done with the risk of winning and loosing. The seller on ebay is someone I have as my favourite and so are you. ( I have purchased a few coins from you before) and when I usually find a gold spot, I usually try to keep it for myself at first rather then share it. I'm still playing catch-up on this hobby as I have purchased in the past in a very impulsive manner.

If I ask you and the members for an opinion about a specific coin its done so with the full understanding of appreciating your time. I research about my next addictive coin purchase but please understand its a doggy dog world:)

Also, the last link you posted was about a problematic coin where I was trying to understand if it was worth it or not. One of the members simply convinced about the coin being problematic and just move on. Although the buyer of that coin is someone I have seen around many of my actions. I wasnt looking at purchasing that coin to make a profit out of it, I was looking at it from the grading perspective and the pricing being very contrary to the true value of a problematic coin.

Buyer (U****I) is someone I'm interested in knowing who he/ahe may be.

I think everyone who collects hopes to get what they pay in the future if not profit. Good luck collecting and selling it's good to have new people regardless. If I ever gave any info that helped someone make a good buy or profit I'm glad.

Thanks, your info does help. I like to believe this coins to be ms but I trust your expertise and understand this ca grade as AU50-AU55. Ill keep an eye on it. There are still 2 days/21hours/14 bids in the ebay listing.
