If any of you are familiar with Alan Herbert's PDS System "Official Price Guide to MINT ERRORS". The 1953S & 1954S
LWC's are in Division II. II-C-16 Displaced Mintmark (touching another design element) on page 134 "A Displaced Mintmark is defined as: A mintmark letter, symbol, or digit that was cut, punched, or hubbed in the die far enough out of the normal position so that it is touching some other part of the design on the struck coin."
The II-C Class has 18 different definitions pertaining to Mintmark errors.
This is a must have book for error collectors
The OP's images of the 1964D are in class II-C-18 "Normal Mintmark". Why Mr. Hebert has a normal mintmark classed as an error is somewhat of a mystery to me other than it's a starting point for comparison. The other 17 are not normal (AKA the guy punching the mintmark was having a bad day or had a bad night).
