Do a little research on the characteristics of the 16-D and take a good look at the coin .
The mint mark die was the same as the one used on the 14-D Lincoln Cent , the mint mark should be boxy and the inside triangular .
If you can get a good look at the top left serif if it has notching then the coin stands a good chance of being legit , there are two dies used that had repunched mint marks and this characteristic is hard to fake .
but with only two of the 4 reverse dies showing this repunch it is not always present to help with authentication .
take a good look at the 14-D mint mark and the 16-D of known authentic pieces and go take a good look at the coin .
If the mint mark is mostly worn off the coin which it may very well be on a coin that grades AG-3 then either pass or trust the TPG.
its a toss up .
