The 9 in the date appears to be off, possibly just handling damage. There is a mark on the rim reverse and there is some strange damage to the center reverse on and behind "United States of America". Maybe this penny has just been through the ringer and is simply beaten up. What say the experts?

I see that a lot on all kinds of years, that is caused by vending machine damage. The reverse looks like glue? Whatever it is it's PSD.
