This one was a dealer buy ( from Germany) I have been looking for a high-grade example and this one had a very well executed St John. Weighs 3.6 grams. mintmaster, when it was struck, was Lapaccio del Berne. Catalogued ( according to the dealer) as CNI 220, Friedb 276, or bernocchi 1424. Although the gold florins were the most important gold coin of Western Europe in the late 13th and early/mid 14th century to me they just don't have the charm of the equivalents from other European states. I suspect that is because of the coins success, Florence didn't need to change it. Other states competing with the Florin became more focused on aesthetics Particularly after one of the popes issued a bull banning the copying of the florin.

Looks like very nice detail on that florin, austrokiwi!

Certainly the florin was a very simple design compared to contemporaries like that genovino from the other thread.

Consistent with St. John's lifestyle.

The roll is almost over. Last year I had a hard look at my collection and decided to sell some of it off to release funds to purchase coins more in keeping with my current interests.

Edit: Was not happy with last nights photo... so this morning I redid it ( for those who want to see the original image you can down load it here:https://drive.google.com/open?id=1q...mHzYVkp-hvtg
