Hi everyone, I just got this very odd holed 1738 Half Penny. While I am not certain if this is a regal piece or a contemporary counterfeit, I am mostly interested in knowing what you make of the countermarks on the obverse and reverse.
It appears to be a floral pattern or a honey bee, and this same countermark repeats twice on the obverse and once on the reverse. Any guesses as to what this mark may be or mean? Thanks!

To me they look like stylised Bees - not sure where that takes you though.

That's a good one. Also strange place to put a hole. Not for use as a necklace is for sure. Possibly a bracelet... maybe. As far as the counter stamps, who knows. They are the type of counter stamp you'd see used as a hallmark stamp by a jeweler perhaps. Just a stab there. Good Luck!
