Japan-Yen,-Gin-Left,-Chopped.-New-Photo

An apparent ebay victory. I picked this coin up for a decent price, and so long as it isn't counterfeit, I'll be content even with the corrosion on the bottom.

This is a Japanese 1 Yen coin, countermarked with the Gin stamp left, and also with Chopmarks from the Orient trade. :)

A fantastic addition to my chop collection.

I would say 75% real 20% not real and 5% unsure. Not real is the "copper" green toning color on the bottom real for the real silver toning/tarnish on the left side and not sure because of the copper LOL

Basing on what characteristics do you think it's an original?
I got lots of those offered here (probably the only Japanese coin you can buy without difficulty), even by the more established dealers.. but still how do you check its originality?
(besides weight)

Well, first of all, I'll have to wait til the coin is in hand. I just won that auction last night. If all goes well, I might have the coin here by Wednesday, but if it's later than Friday I'll be perplexed.

As to how I can tell, I'm not an expert like some of the guys here. The details on the faces of the coin look correct to me. That's all I can do right now.

The coin arrived in the mail a few days ago, and I've got new pictures of it. Once in hand, I had no suspicions at all that the coin was anything but silver. The contaminate at the bottom is coming off nicely, but the dark toning spot may always be there. I'm very happy to have this coin to add to my Chopmarked collection. :)
