Post Strike Damage ( PSD) has caused the 1 and the other digits to get damage. You now have a cull coin.

A close-up of the date area would help for a more specific explanation.

Yes there is PMD... but I think I see what you are talking about on the date.

The "1" on the first part of the date is missing... but where the "1" is missing there is not evidence of PMD damage. The other numbers in date are flat from circulation wear. I would say this is due to grease on the die.

So Struck Through Grease.

If you need more practice uploading images, I'll request another assignment. Clear close-up of date and mint mark together I can zoom in on and another clear close-up of the eyelid as well.

I'll agree the coin has experienced damaged after strike, but I also agree I'm not currently seeing it on the "1" in date. Another thing, I'm trying to compare with something else and need clear close-ups to do so. Thanks, Doug.

The question is if the penny ever had a "1". I say NO... Although damaged, the area of the 1 is not damaged and is most likely a Struck Through Grease error.

Though it has some damage, and it probably won't amount to much, but sometimes knowing yea or nay has its own reward. Thanks, Doug.
