This penny is shiny but textured looking. I can tell it isn't paint. It doesn't look like a cleaning. Is there any chance of a strike through or maybe it's plated. OR ?

This coin was heated. It wasn't struck looking like that. So it is not an error coin. An altered coin. PSD

Yes. Could this happen in a dryer or was it more heat than that? A heat gun ? It's a copper penny so it's not a plating getting bubbled. Can you help me understand how it caused the texture? Just curious. Thanks for all you guys do.

I was thinking acid or sandblasting myself.

Even more than a blow torch. The ones that have more than one hose on them. That cut steel.

It's raised shiny bumps. So getting nearly melted would cause it to get bumpy?

Heated straight down from the top like yours, or given more push like this one.

The blow torch cent has a wavy look and the op's coin does not.

I have used torches on metal but never on copper. I understand that difficult angles cause different effects. Also it is possible for to bring the shine up in metal. The right heat from straight above would cause more of a boiled effect. Sand blasting makes pits and usually dulls the shine. I don't know all about acid but I have seen it etch metal. I am leaning towards the heated idea.
