Out of this pile of a hundred or more SLQ's only 12 have a visible date. Are the rest just scrap?

You could try to acid etch to find missing dates

Here's a recovered date on a Seated dollar using silver test solution. The last 4 was missing. Now you can see a ghost of it. It probably doesn't increase the value much, but it satisfied my curiosity on a cull coin.

You could separate out the Type I issues and learn the distinct die characteristics of the scarce 1916 date to see if you have one of those. The rest are just worth melt value.

About how many years of circulation did it take on average for an SLQ to become worn down to no-date? 1965 to 1969 quarters are less worn than that, and they've been circulating for 50+ years, though I think their clad alloy is tougher than coin silver was.

Takes about 30 years of circulation for 90% silver since it's much softer than the cupronickel alloy used in moderns. The date is also well protected by the design on modern coins, but on SLQs and buffalos it was the first thing to go

The SLQ's were dateless very quickly; my dad used to pull them out of change once in awhile when he was a boy in the 1950s, with almost all of the pre-1925 issues being dateless.

Even it you could restore a date on one it would probably leave a messy spot.
