Another impulse purchase
They can be so much fun sometimes
But this one really has me stumped
It appears to be a Roman Republican Quadrans
But ......
No 3 dots that I can see
No ROMA that I can see
And as far as I can see ......
the ships prow is facing left instead of right !
Nifty anchor above though
That was what first attracted my interest

But I shall now go sacrifice a ham sandwich
and pray for enlightenment
I welcome all input !

Æ-16 Roman Republic
Obv. Bust of Hercules wearing lion skin headdress right
Rv. Prow of ship facing left
anchor above
3.19 grams 15-6mm

Isn't the anchor where The "ROMA" is supposed to be? I am aware it could be on the bottom as well.

Maybe this is a non-official?

For reference:

Very interesting coin, I looked through Crawford but was unable able to find a similar coin with that monogram. As you are probably aware there were many different types of monograms that appeared on these coins. I might have miss it or it could be an unrecorded type.

Well that 'splains it !
I have been barking up the wrong tree all along
I thought the prow looked slightly off
Well
Now we know where the Romans got the idea for the design
They stole it !!

I was going to say that is a very greek looking coin, even for the early Republican issues!

The Romans were the "World Heavyweight Champions have stealing ideas and technology" Just ask the Carthaginians.
