Quote: Shill bidding is a sort of marketing strategy. If it makes you money why not use it. It is unethical. Try bidding on your own items at any live auction (e.g., livestock, cars, coins) and see what happens...

Many major auction houses around the world actually do allow that if you read through their terms. Most also reserve the right to bid on items they are auctioning for their own purchase as well.

sometimes you get alot more or alot less for your item than u expected when you sell by auction but this is the chance you take which you agreed to when you set your starting bid

As I said earlier .. red flags should flap before your eyes when you see "private listing" for any auction. You don't know who you are bidding against ... a shill, the actual owner, the seller using another ID name or another collector. But I agree, gidgit .. this guy takes the cake and should be banned. Sells to himself, cancels the auction (no charge), writes up a 5 star feedback for both buyer and seller, and then relists the same item for a higher price now that he knows someone will bid on it.

They especially don't win money wise when talking about auctions only where BINs don't matter. I can't do anything to stop the pitch forks so I will just back out now. Point was a lot of general statements were being made that are standard elsewhere

Point was a lot of general statements were being made that are standard elsewhere I'm not sure what this means, but I looked at the listings and it seems fairly clear this seller repeatedly violates ebay rules in order to profit and build a false reputation. So he should be banned from ebay.

Quote: Point was a lot of general statements were being made that are standard elsewhere again... name 3 auction houses that allow this according to you it is in their terms of service, which if you are referring to them I assume you've read them, so shouldn't be too hard to name them or copy/paste the relevant text.

I have heard of bidding on your own items being allowable in some auctions. The thing is if you "win" your own item your must pay all buying and selling fees associated with the "win" so if the item gets anywhere near its market value you would lose big-time if you "won". The old Teletrade Coin auction site had hidden reserves used to bid up prices when there were no other bidders. I had it happen to me; coins I had bid on were won by other bidders and ended up right back in another Teletrade auction a week or two later. They are out-of-business and rightly so.
