G'day & thankyou. I collect portraits of QE2, and I have some early Candian notes. I hadn't realized that only some of the 1954s were devils, and some weren't. I could never find the devil, neither. So, now I'm doubly enlightened. And now that I've seen the so-called devil, I must say that it doesn't look particularly devilish. In these, and the Australian portraits, the Queen is depicted with a severe expression. When one sees her on TV, she never looks that way. Peter in Oz

A devil's face in the hair? interesting...but I hope people don't see too far into such things, lol. Maybe that would be a good complement to the 1958 "Death Dollar"?

It's actually much more noticeable to the naked eye when compared with a "non Devil" note.
Supposedly the designer was fiercely anti-Loyalist. Hence the design.
When it was discovered shall we say "the Queen was NOT amused".

WITH DEVIL'S HAIR WITH HAIR CORRECTED sorry the pics aren't a little better, but websites are not allowed to post images without writing replica across the front in case of counterfeiting so I had to photograph my own coin book. Just in case you don't see it, you are actually supposed to be looking at the highlighted areas of her hair. starting at the back top of her head there are the horns going upward, then the eyes and so on.

In an old archived thread I made a pic, sufficiently vandalized to disallow the possibility of a print-and-spend counterfeiter, highlighting the devil face:

I have one of these devilish notes, thanks to my grandmother, who pulled it out of circulation in the '50's. Wasn't until perhaps 20 years later that I found out about the hair problem, looked at the bill, and noticed it. At least it didn't get carried off with the book of Morgans that she also gave me.
