Given the right conditions, any copper nickel coin can tone to a very attractive rich golden color.
As such, all that I have seen with such nice toning have all been in very high condition.

I can understand why you can be a 'sucker' for such a nice coin.
Die cracks make this one more interesting.
Perhaps they had problems striking these, and type change conveniently coincided with solution to the die cracking problem, to produce a one year type.
