Thank you for update, jimper, appreciate the items, awake my curiosity: Pure Silver Coin Set - The Elements - Mintage: 2,000 (2019) 2019 Special Wrap Roll Collection: First Strikes - Mintage: 5,000 5 oz. Pure Silver Coin - 70th Anniversary of Newfoundland Joining Canada - Mintage: 1,000 (2019) Not planning to get though, but like to see the designs. For the rolls - interesting, how they would be specified / graded "First Strike"? We know that RCM increased amount of issues, but great to see significant decrease in the mintage.

@ jimper
How much did the FEB19 promo code save you on the 5oz 1949 Dollar coin in the end?

It is a must if you collect silver dollars or 5 oz coins (Big Coins). It's my favorite design of the commemorative silver dollars. Also it's double dated. Use the promo code and pick it up for $499.95 and you can stretch your payment upto 4 equal payments.

I had given up on the 5oz coins. From 2006 to 2009 there was only one per year, there were two in 2010, none in 2011 but another in 2012. In 2013 though there were 5 and it just got ridiculous in 2015 with the introduction of the big coin series with last year reissuing the penny just so they could get to 7 coins. That said... I succumbed to the 70th Anniversary coin as it is a stunning reverse and will be welcomed into my collection. I only hope that this is a rare occurrence and not a reboot of the "renewed" series of SDs in the 5oz format. I was disappointed with last year's Loon renewal of the Remembrance commemorative from 1994 in the 2oz format and with the 50 cent issues now firmly entrenched as 2oz renewal coins are the renewed dollars getting supersized? The 2oz coins are still a better value at less than $100/oz. All the 5oz coins are over $100/oz (discount codes not included). The coin looks great I just hope the RCM remembers that sometimes... less is more.

Vonigohcr I fully agree with your points...too many 5 oz renewals BUT yes the 1949 commemorative has not been seen before refreshed in any size I believe - so yes this one is very appealing for any SD fan.

It's always entertaining to see what coin is hot today, warm tomorrow, then ice cold next month. People spend their money in funny ways sometimes

In regards to the 1949 commemorative original issues - these specific SD look even more impressive toned - I've seen so many good 1949 toned variety - so this 5oz version with no gold or colour enhancements should age well IMO. Given the design-I suspect it would be very challenging to add any enhancements, hence the pure and only silver presentation.

@JGG I don't deny your premise in fact it is a drum I have been often accused of beating however the one coin from 2018 that I really liked and didn't pick up was the Angel of Victory. It is still on for the original $1K. I expect it will float down to $300-400 in the fullness of time and I am prepared to wait for that, especially since I don't have a spare thousand dollars burning a hole in my pocket. The 1949 Newfoundland reissue though... in time, it will float down to $250 or maybe even less. I like the coin so I am prepared to pay the "impatience" premium @Electrum The RCM blurb indicates that except for upsizing and certain frosting for the proof feel and the double date the reverse is identical to the 1949 issue. There is no gold plate or glass beads. The one significant deviation is the field on the obverse has the maple leaf pattern that is now common on the larger coins rather than the mirror field from the proof 36mm SDs. All of this info is from the RCM page and the renderings on that page.

I really like the 5 oz. Pure Silver Coin - 70th Anniversary of Newfoundland Joining Canada, but completely do not understand the logic for the 5oz format. I would definitely be a buyer if it was made available in the regular SD 36mm format, in fact, it seems this would be a great series for special/limited edition SDs. I believe the same idea was suggested last year for the anniversary of the 1958 dollar.

Just received VIP notification from CAC on the new releases which is great because I haven't been a MC member for well over a year now.
Curious about the wrapped rolls pricing. Previously they sold for $185 and they are listed on pre-order for $130.
Such a dramatic price drop will annoy anyone who bought the previous sets. Wonder if the Mint made more of an effort to to have them showing the reverse on one end?
