There seems to be a flood of fake and copy
coins in our hobby. What if we have a place
to post pics, links, names of sellers, etc...
of these things.
Maybe we could set it up in a way that there
are posts reporting these details, while a
sticky(s) set up with a database of pics.

Just some thoughts.
Many times fakes are posted in forums where
they can be seen by the most members that
collect that coin, but since the coin is on
an auction site usually, the post gets moved
to the less traveled auction forum.

A dedicated fake forum could be a central
location for these things, regardless of
source link or auction. That way a Morgan
collector, for example, could go there and
research Morgan threads to keep themselves
updated in the fakes of their specialty.

Just a thought.

Maybe there could be a sticky, or 'sub-forum' on
each forum, that is dedicated to fakes of coins
that would otherwise be discussed on that particular
forum... OR the sticky could be a link that redirects
the user to the Fake forum...

There is something like that regarding ancient coins..
I think that a place where deceptive fakes sold at ebay would be posted, and where it would be explained, how to distinguish the fake from the original, would be useful. All of us can handle the most obvious ones like the 1947 Morgan, but there are many that (not only) beginner collectors are not aware of.
I say many would benefit. I'd keep collecting the images on my disk (and hopefully posting them somewhere together for easy reference).

Only thing is, a sticky thread or single thread
set gets crowded way too quickly. Discourages
efficient use. For example, the recommended and
discouraged seller sticky threads in the auction
forum. GREAT IDEAS! However, they are so lengthy
that they get boring right away and if you are
about to deal with a seller, you would have to
go through all 10 pages to check for the seller's
name. You can't just look at it once and remember
all the bad eggs.

It would have to be more organized, an easily
searched... almost alphabetical. To be of real
'ergonomic' use to a buyer.

Just brainstorming here! Not trying to knock
anyone. Thinking aloud to give smarter folks
than I, ideas to do this thing!

Case in point, the 1892-CC Morgan.
That one has folks fooled, as evidenced by the
responses in the post.

There are ebay dealers asking questions on that
seller's auctions and sniffing around like they
are going to buy the coins. They are blinded by
money... Looking at that low price.

I have another thread on a seller from Greece that
has already sold 24 fake Morgans to US dealers.
Dealers that have been duped! They saw AU Morgans for
just over 10 bux each and were blinded by greed.

We can overlook tell tale signs of a fake very easily
when the price is too good to be true.

Off topic, but here is good a place as any:

Why, when I try to link to ebay.au, does the
board automatically delete the ".au" from the addy?
This makes the link junk and non-functional.
Can we fix this?
We should be able to link to all versions of ebay
to find both good and bad coins throughout the world.
The fact is that US residents can go to any version
of ebay and order this stuff for import into the US.
I notice that the buyers of most counterfeits in these
overseas eBays are US dealers!
