I remember reading about these in CoinWorld a while back. THese look to be graded by SEGS but no actual grade is given. So are these the real deal 1938 pattern Jefferson's?

Hmm...looking at that packaging, I wonder what the following means:

Quote:
The "1938" Jefferson nickel
Award Winning Design

So I wonder what those quotes around "rare" and "1938" signify?

So I did some further checking. Coinfacts.com doesn't list a pattern for 1938 (and they usually do). Popping over to Heritage, there haven't been auctions for such a pattern. Hmmm...that's funny. Google can't find these on other legitimate sites.

Back to the auction...

Quote:
THEY ARE SLABBED TO ATTEST THAT THEY WERE THE PATTERN COINS FOR THE NICKEL, THIS SET COMES IN ITS OWN BOX,
Nothing on Heritage, yet here they are in their "own box". So what about that box--does it appear circa 1938, or some later creation? These coins appear to be pristine, so where is their original packaging? Slabbing proves exactly what--other than sealed in plastic?

I see a lot of hits against this "pattern". If anyone can prove me wrong, please do.

Notice the label on the box, FSNC= Full Step Nickel Club. This appears to have been a fundraising effort by FSNC and commissioned the Gallery Mint to recreate the winning design by Felix Schlag. SEGS just happens to be "the official TPG" of FSNC so that is why it is slabbed by SEGS. Notice the slab label- mintage 1,938- a convenient mintage for a fundraiser. Gallery Mint sold them for $38 in matte unc and $42 in proof. This is a private striking and not a genuine pattern or legal tender coin. Since it is not a pattern, this guy is off his rocker wanting $1500

Gallery Mint

Jbuck .....
To me they smell like moose urine, dead nightcrawlers, and armpit......

Of course there's a "forced to eat them" childhood story with me & brussel sprouts here.....but it's a long story and that would be WAYYYYY off topic to go into it now.....even for me !

or not....

Let's just say that 4 hours after everyone else has left the dinner table and I've been told that I have to sit there until the brussel sprouts are gone, I discovered that the family dog (Shih Tsu named Waffles) would eat them !......Well turns out he was just carrying them into the living room and spitting them out onto the couch, the floor, etc......And, when checked on by my mother, I was praised and congratulated and patted on the back for eating these vile vegetables.......
This only lasted for a short time until she discovered what Waffles was doing with them !.....I was then grounded for 2 weeks and was not her pride and joy any longer......

There !......that's "one" reason why I hate them !.....Is this off topic too much ya think ?....

I see the answer has already been given but I didn't read the responses before I went looking for answers for you, here is a quote from another website

Quote:
They were made for the Full Step Jefferson nickel Club. They officially sell them in
Satin / Matte finish and Proof finish. Roughly $35-$40.00 each.. I think the Matte is a little cheaper than the Proof.

There were 1938 of each made. They are all in SEGS slabs.. They are not commercially graded, just encapsulated.

Wow...great observation! That's very telling too...I doubt many patterns had such a large run.

I remember you posting that on CCF...sigh, yeah--what a letdown

I guess that clinches it on those "patterns", eh? I just hope nobody bids. Brussels sprouts...they scared me as a kid, but I like them now.
