HI All,

I just captured this great Titus denarius. It was again misattributed. This time the misattribution concern not a dating combination bu the position of 2 captive figures on the reverse. The auction house said this coin was RIC 105 which has Man on left Woman on right. On this coin it is Woman on left man on right. That makes this coin RIC 103. In this case it makes little difference with regard to stated rarity, both are (R2). 105 appears to be a bit rarer.

I know the coin is dark but I absolutely loved the portrait of Titus. It is really well done imho.

Please post your darkly toned coins or coins of Titus.

Titus, 79 - 81 n. Chr. Denar (2.96g). 80 n. Chr. Mzst. Rom. Vs.: IMP TITVS CAES VESPASIAN AVG P M, Kopf mit Lorbeerkranz n. l. Rs.: TR P IX IMP XV COS VIII P P, zwei Gefangene sitzen Rücken an Rücken an einem Tropaeum. RIC 103; C. 306; BMC 37; BN 34.
Ex Sammlung Shlomo Moussaieff, London, 1948 - 2000.
Condition: Dunkle Tönung, partiell Auflagen, ss
Ex: Gorny und Mosch e-auction 263 - 07.03.2019 10: Lot 3615

Congrats on another rare find. The detail is such that it's easy to tell the male from female figures.

Nice pick up. Excellent toning, in fact, the light to dark contrast accentuates that pronounced jawline.

I think a post of all your Domitians is warranted. How many do ya have now?

This is one is nice, but the entire hoard will be an amazing sight I think.
