I am helping out a dealer friend who got a large collection. It appears that the vast majority were purchased 10-20 years ago and most have the original dealer's tags and prices from that era. The vast majority are from northeast Europe-austria-Hungary.

It has been challenging at times but educational.

I have checked these sources:

1. ebay: limited value as many are not listed and most of the time they are listed as "buy it now" so I have no idea what the actual sale price was.

2. NGC world coin coins prices/ Krause: In most cases I can get a positive ID if the item dates from 1600 and newer, but Krause has some errors/ omissions, plus there has been reshuffling of mints/ countries since many of coins were purchased.

3. MA shops (A german site): This has been most helpful for pre-1600 coins, but of course these are asking prices.

Can anybody think of any other on-line sources I should look into?

16th century is very hard due to the lack of the Krause/NGC catalogs going back that far into the past. In addition to what basebal21 suggested I would add Stack's Bowers archive.

Krause World coins 1600-1700 OK as a general indication.
Much value interpolation still needed to price an individual coin that is under investigation.

Vcoins for coins earlier than 1600 also OK, but the size of the date base is much smaller. Even more interpolative work required.

Thanks, everyone. Good advice. I will check those out.

What I am finding so far is that prices are " all over the map", in other words, not so firmly established the older you go. This area and era seem not to be the most popular collecting area, hence sales seem to be fewer.
