I see a lot of coins for sale that say, "Improperly Cleaned." Can someone tell me why I don't see any that say, Properly Cleaned?"
Rest in Peace

To CCF , first of all you should never clean a coin ever ! But if you do you have to know what the heck your doing or you will ruin the value of the coin . No true coin collector wants a cleaned coin .
That's why nobody states a '' properly cleaned coin ""

"Improperly Cleaned" is one of the designations that TPGs use to identify a coin that has abrasions from a previous cleaning attempt, aka "hairlines". Properly cleaned coins are "conserved" and will not have such damage. TPGs will not provide a special designation for a properly conserved coin, however you might be able to distinguish between a coin that has has its toning removed from one that has not.

The term "Improperly Cleaned" is simply redundant. The TPGs do not acknowledge "Properly Cleaned" coins. The term "Improperly" is just an adverb.

Cleaned is an indicator of a details grade. Properly cleaned coins aka conserved coins get real grades when it is done properly on the right coins.

It's worth adding that proper cleaning of a coin results in a coin that you can't tell whether it has been cleaned. Improper cleaning leaves a noticeable impact on a coin's appearance.
