Hi,

I have this 1978 Dime that I'm wanting to know if this is doubling or not on the 1978. I have seen this fattening font on many coins. I watched some videos about doubling but I'm wanting o here from so people whom will guide me the right way :).

I also have a question about the notch near the temple in front of the ear. It looks like a "B" laying down. I have seen this on many different coins from 1 cents to 25 cents. Can anyone help with this mystery mark?

That's circulation wear and flattening on the devices. There's no doubling.

Yep, flattened devices from circulation and vending machines. The strange markings are coin contact hits from the reeded edge of other coins.

Thank you very much. That's very interesting about that mark. A coin would have to have hit that hard to do that. Is that happening in the process of printing / stamping?

That's known as a "Bag Mark".
Usually happens when the coins are transported loose in bags from the Mint.
AIso coins are not printed. Currency is printed.
