The images are of a new 1 ruble Transnistrian Note and accompanying folder, released to commemorate the 30th anniversary of the withdrawal from Afghanistan by Russian forces. The memorial inside the folder and in the small badge on the right of the obverse, is the "Memorial of Glory", located at Suvorov Square, Tiraspol, in Transnistria.

Transnistria, ( sometimes written "Trans-Dniester" and other ways ), claims to be an independent state but is largely unaccepted by most countries, with Russia as its "Uncle". The UN considers it to be part of Moldova.

One banknote website I looked at stated the issue of this note was limited to 1,500.

It seems to me an odd occasion to commemorate. Russia's war in Afghanistan has sometimes been described as "Russia's Vietnam". If there is anyone out there who could translate the text into English it would be greatly appreciated, and might help to understand the thinking behind the note's issue.

I can't translate it. However Transnistria was a part of the USSR at the time of the Afghan war and you would assume that Transistrians went there.

It is commemorated to the 30th anniversary of full and complete withdrawal of USSR troops from Afghanistan
The text states how many people were involved in war as troops and civilian workers
In Trans-Dniestr this day is Day to remember and glory of heroes

@Anaximander, really like that note/folder, unusual. Transnistria notes are quite abundant on the ebay, never seen a commemorative one though. Nice
