Picked this up for $300. Thoughts on grade and problems? Thanks!

That is about the right price if it didn't have those black marks on it. Perhaps you can remove them. It appears to be genuine.

MS Details for 4 reasons. ED on Obverse. Detailed for gash on obverse. Detailed for chopmarking. Detailed for pitting on reverse. Nice enough eye appeal but a slew of issues IMO. Great Trade dollar though.

MS details - I don't mind the chop mark, but I'm thinking that dark oxidized spot on the obverse has eaten into the metal.

Absolutely love Trade dollars with Chop Marks (because they were used for they're intended purpose)
I would say yours would grade NGC MS-DETAILS CHOP MARK.
and the price is right in the ballpark for what I paid for mine, very nice pickup. I always try and imagine what was purchased with these a way back then.
These are getting more expensive by the day it seems.
Here is mine. It graded AU- DETAILS - CHOP MARK.

AU details, cleaned/damaged. it appears that under the grime at 1 o'clock there is damage to the coin.

Not a fan of chopmakrked dollars. Rather get a more worn straight graded example
